A staple ingredient, especially for the starving college student set. As a very common type of grain, Rice is found world wide - and thus incorporated into a wonderful spectra of culinary culture. There are two main types of rice, the Long Grains and the Short Grains. The short grain rice is alternately called the Japonica rice, and is predominantly cultivated in namesake homeland of Japan. The long grain is called the Indica rice, and is predominantly cultivated on the Asian continent.

Rice can be purchased in bulk for very cheap, often one of the most cost efficient source of dietary calories to the dollar. It it commonly boiled or steamed.
