For those who are uninitiated this is a burger with the cheese in the middle. This keeps the burger from drying out on the grill and makes it especially tasty. So why not go nuts and add some additional cheese to the top?
Ingredients
- 2 Slices of provolone. Swiss or cheddar will also work.
- 1/3 lb 90% lean beef
- Favorite burger seasoning
- Bacon optional
Directions
- Preheat grill on high.
- Cut up one slice of cheese into bits about 1/2 inch in diameter.
- Split the hamburger into two clumps. Form them into patties with a small indentation in one.
- Place the cheese you cut up in indentation. Place the second patty over the cheese filling then carefully seal the edges of the larger burger unit. If your careful you can flatten the burger a bit without smashing the cheese out.
- Place the burger on the grill. Cook for a couple minutes then rotate it for some nice grill marks. Flip the burger after about 5 minute. Cook second side until desired doneness is reached.
- Optional: You may cook some bacon at this point. Be careful because bacon + grill may equal fireball. If you keep your eyes on it you will be rewarded with some super smoky bacon for your burger without burning it to a cinder.
- Place the optional bacon on the burger then cover it with the second slice of cheese when it has about a minute left.
- Serve on a bun
Edit: I forgot to mention, the cheese can be hot so be careful.
